A. All eligible employees of the city shall be members of PERS, provided that if an employee has the option of not becoming a member of PERS or withdrawing as a member of PERS, the city shall, at the option of the employee, either permit the employee to become or remain a member of PERS or contribute the same amount that would have been made to PERS as an employer contribution.

1. To a city sponsored retirement pension, or deferred compensation program, or the like, if one is offered by the city;

2. To an employee selected retirement, pension, or deferred compensation program, or the like, if the city can legally and practically contribute to the selected program;

3. To the employee directly to place in an IRA, annuity, deferred compensation program, or the like, or to place or use the contribution as he or she desires.

B. Elected officials shall have the option of membership, regardless of time served, to be effective at the beginning of any term of office and upon payment of employee contributions for such period. (Ord. 1207, 1986; Ord. 822, 1977)
