If a vacancy occurs on the City Council, the Council will follow the procedures outlined in RCW 35A.13.020. In order to fill the vacancy with the most qualified person available until an election is held, the Council will publish a notice of the vacancy, the procedure, and distribute the application form for applying. The Council will draw up an application which contains relevant information, including questions posed by the Council. The application forms will be used in conjunction with an interview of each candidate to aid the Council’s selection of the new Council member. A vacancy must be filled within ninety (90) days per RCW 42.12.070(4). The vacancy term is until the next general election results are final and will be for the unexpired term. (Ord. 2972, 5/25/21)
